Technology Developments for Small Wastewater Treatment Plants
نویسنده
چکیده
INTRODUCTION Small wastewater treatment plants (SWTP) are here defined as plants with a size less than about 2000 p.e., or with a daily load less than 1000 m/d and 200 kg BOD/d. There are, however, no such exact limits in reality. Therefore, plants up to 5000 p.e. are some times included. The interesting thing is that several practical conditions are more or less of the same type for this class of treatment plants. Such conditions give special problems and engineering challenges which must be met in the design and operation of SWTP.

Evaluating air-blown gasification for energy recovery from wastewater solids: Impact of biological treatment and point of generation on energy recovery
Decentralized water reclamation is emerging as a new paradigm that pairs local wastewater resources with local users; however, one of the challenges that must be addressed to advance its implementation is the low energy efficiency associated with small treatment plants and the lack of available small-scale energy recovery technologies. Gasification is a technology that could be used to convert ...
متن کاملEvaluation of Anaerobic-Aerobic Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations
Seven small wastewater treatment plants were chosen for evaluation. These WWTPs work on the principle of anaerobic pre-treatment and aerobic post-treatment and were made with the cooperation of Slovak Technical University with ASIO-SK s.r.o. Bytča and ASIO s.r.o. Brno. Wastewater treatment plants are made for 5-600 PE. When operated at suitable conditions, the results match the directive water ...
متن کاملA Review of Phosphorus Removal Technologies and Their Applicability to Small-Scale Domestic Wastewater Treatment Systems
The removal of phosphorus (P) from domestic wastewater is primarily to reduce the potential for eutrophication in receiving waters, and is mandated and common in many countries. However, most P-removal technologies have been developed for use at larger wastewater treatment plants that have economies-of-scale, rigorous monitoring, and in-house operating expertise. Smaller treatment plants often ...
متن کاملApplication of Emergy Analysis to the Sustainability Evaluation of Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants
Municipal wastewater treatment plants consume much energy and manpower, are expensive to run, and generate sludge and treated wastewater whilst removing pollutants through specific treatment regimes. The sustainable development of the wastewater treatment industry is therefore challenging, and a comprehensive evaluation method is needed for assessing the sustainability of different wastewater t...
متن کاملA review of modeling approaches in activated sludge systems
The feasibility of using models to understand processes, predict and/or simulate, control, monitor and optimize WasteWater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) has been explored by a number of researchers. Mathematical modeling provides a powerful tool for design, operational assistance, forecast future behavior and control. A good model not only elucidates a better understanding of the complicated biologi...
